Neighbourhood Watch warn residents of Distraction Theft
Danilo Orozco of Neighbourhood Watch encourages residents to be vigilant in regards to distraction theft.
The Ottawa Police Services are advising citizens of Ottaw that suspects are distracting unsuspecting elderly women in grocery stores by asking them for assistance in reading a product label while another suspect steals their wallet from their purse. The suspects later use the victim’s credit cards and ATM cards to commit fraud.
Residents should be aware of their surroundings and secure their belongings. Report any suspicious person or activity to police immediately.
Anyone with information in relation to such thefts, or any other crime, is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service at 613-230-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS), or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
