Police Advisory Regarding Overnight Residential Break and Enters

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Break & Enter Unit would like to alert
residents in light of a few recent cases of overnight residential break and
enters where suspects are targeting motor vehicles. Once inside the
residence the vehicle keys are taken allowing them to drive away in the
vehicle. Dating back to the beginning of September there have been just over
300 residential break and enters and of these are 8 where entry was gained
overnight and the car was stolen.

Police are encouraging residents to ensure the doors to the home, garage
(including interior garage door allowing access to the home), and vehicle(s)
are locked before going to bed. Spare keys, wallets, purses, cell phones
should not be left in vehicles and anything of any value should be hidden
from public view.

Anyone with information can contact the Ottawa Police Break and Enter Unit

Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS), toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or by
downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
