NOISE ALERT: 24-Hour/Day Construction Work (Nov 24–30)

IMPORTANT NOTICE from Councillor Devine to Tanglewood-Hillsdale / Crestview neighborhoods: Please be advised that area residents may experience significant disruption due to a temporary change to the construction schedule of the Merivale Transformer Station Modernization Project.

The City of Ottawa has granted a temporary exemption to the Noise By-law in order to allow for necessary work on this critical infrastructure.  As a result of this, between November 24 – 30, construction crews will be working 24 hours a day in order to complete pipe-ramming work for new underground infrastructure located underneath the CN railway tracks. The area where the work will be taking place is indicated by the red circle on the map above

Hydro Ottawa has informed us that CN Rail requires this work to be done as quickly as possible, which led to the permission to work 24 hours a day, and the resulting Noise By-law exemption. Due to the nature of this activity, residents in the area will experience loud and consistent construction noise outside of typical work hours. The work will be done by Hydro Ottawa and their contractors, Bradley Kelly Construction Ltd. and Marathon Underground.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Start: November 24 at 6 a.m.
End:  November 30 at 6 a.m.
Duration: Crews will be working 24 hours a day during this specific timeframe.

Our office recognizes that overnight construction noise of this nature will be disruptive. We appreciate your patience as we work with our partners at Hydro Ottawa to modernize our critical infrastructure to ensure reliable future service
