In Person: Visit any City of Ottawa recreation facility during normal working hours to register for your course (Nepean Sportsplex, Ben Franklin place in Centrepointe)

Online: Direct your browser to Ottawa.ca/recreationguide and click on the Register! button and sign up.

Week 1 :  July 8 to 11 : 

Programming Adventures using MIT Scratch – Wize Academy 
Time: 9-12.30 Barcode: 87943
Course Description: Children build animations, games, music, and videos. They sculpted their coating muscles in this coating adventure, and leave having learnt to code, using this very easy to use tool for Block-based coding from MIT.

Engineering and Robotics: First Lego® League – Wize Academy
Time: 12:30-4 Barcode: 87950
Course Description: Design, create and program robots through the week and debug real time applying the concepts learnt in class, and then transition into the world of the electrical engineering and robotics with Lego WeDo/Ev3/Spike. Great class for engineers of tomorrow!!

Week 2. July 15 to 18 ; 

Robot Petting Zoo– Wize Academy
Time: 9 – 12.30 Barcode: 87955
Course Description: Students participate in a “makathon” to create a robotic pet to delight and inspire visitors to the petting zoo. They construct their pets from familiar materials, such as cardboard and craft supplies and use robotic components and programming to bring their creatures to life.

3D Design and Printing– Wize Academy
Time: 12:30-4 Barcode: 87959
Course Description: 3D design and printing teaches important STEAM concepts, and design thinking. Using easy, intuitive and engaging software. Children will transition from drawing a 2-D to designing a 3-D. No CAD or computer experience necessary. Participants get to take home the objects they design and print.


Week 3:  July 22nd to 25th :  

Learn to fly Drones : Intermediate Level – Wize Academy
Time: 9 – 12.30 Barcode: 87970
Course Description: Experience the thrill of Control, coding and flying drones. Learn computer science fundamentals through hands-on experimentation. Use both block and text coding to control drones. Start with simple programs where you automate the drone’s flight plan, then learn to build your own custom drone controller.

Engineering and Robotics: First Lego® League – Wize Academy

Course Description: The program is built around challenges to engage children in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering. Learners, acquire skills that get them to the finishing line successfully.


Week 4 : July 29 to Aug 1

Modding in Minecraft– Wize Academy
Time: 9 – 12.30 Barcode: 87982
Course Description: Go beyond just playing Minecraft – learn to program it. Create mods in Minecraft by learning programming concepts, and applying them to realize your ideas. No prior coding experience needed it.

Game Design and Development with Roblox®– Wize Academy
Time: 12:30-4 Barcode: 88001
Course Description: Video game design is comprised of many different, technical and abstract components, and in this program, children will learn basic Lua programming while they develop a game project. We provide a constructive and safe space for students to learn and apply the same concepts that real life programmers and game designers use to create video games. As your child codes and taps into critical thinking.

These Skating lessons are city run programs but to register for it you need to contact [email protected] Spots are limited. This program is free for families that cannot afford to pay for regular city run programs. If you can afford to pay then register for the Learn to skate programs at TPCC run programs or Ottawa.ca These programs are weather dependent. Contact [email protected] to register.

I Love to Skate Program

Small group instruction for children ages 6 to 12 years old (weather permitting) on our outdoor rink

The I Love to Skate program is a learn-to-skate program for children that face financial barriers to participation in organized sport and recreation activities. The program is run by the City of Ottawa thanks to grant funding through partnerships with Canadian Tire Jumpstart charities and the Senators Community Foundation. Participants in I Love to Skate program will develop basic skating skills and each participant will receive a Voucher to purchase pair of skates and a helmet with a cage at Canadian Tire, to keep so they can continue to enjoy skating after the program has ended.

The I Love to Skate program schedule for winter 2024: Days & Times Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:30 to 7:30 Starting January 16th for 3 weeks
Note: if ice is too soft or there is a snow storm, then the classes will be postponed.

WHERE:  TCR – Tanglewood Community Rink
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:   Skates and helmet with a cage for child (Vouchers are available to redeem this equipment at Canadian Tire)

I Love to Play Hockey Program

This program teaches participant the fundamental skills and rules of playing hockey. It’s meant for a small group instruction for children ages 7yrs – 14yrs
WHERE:  TCR – Tanglewood Community Rink
WHEN:             Every Friday 5:30PM to 6:30PM  January 21, 2022 (depending on Ottawa Public Health directives) for 5 weeks
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:   Skates, stick and helmet for child (Coupons are available to redeem this equipment at Canadian Tire)
COST:                FREE

WIZE

Dates: Mondays March 18 to June 3

Robotics and Coding Club– Wize Academy   Age at least 5 yrs to 9 yrs

Course Description: Build and program robots to complete exciting challenges. Develop computational thinking, problem solving and logical reading skills. Children explore principles of structural engineering, simple machines and more.

Course Description: We have a project-based approach to teaching designing, robotics and coding. We encourage “learning by doing”. We prepare our students to think, learn, problem solve, be self-confident, collaborate and to create.
